As a mature and experienced woman, I became more and more aware of the hidden unhealthy chemicals in the products we use daily. One of them is surely a lipstick we use almost a day. We’re unfortunately and accidentally consumed more toxins in our daily beauty routine. A simple act of applying lipstick means you are exposing your body to toxic ingredients such as lead. But how can we make natural toxic free lipstick (without lead)? Which types of ingredients are safe and natural that can form a perfect lipstick?
I think you will love our handmade product that we gonna show and instruct you today! It’s a rich, pigmented, easy to make and affordable lipstick while also being natural, safe and cruelty free.
What do we need to make natural lipstick?
- 1 teaspoon beeswax or cocoa butter
- 2 teaspoons shea butter or cocoa butter
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
This simple recipe will create a smooth, clear lipstick that is very moisturizing and protective from around environment. It is made from completely natural ingredients and is safe for us on the lips or skin. It makes your lip soft, smooth and smell well. If you want your lip with featured color, feel free to choose one of another natural ingredient below to make your own favorite color with your nourishing balm.
- For red: 1/8 teaspoon of beet root powder, 1 drop of natural red food coloring with no chemical additives (add these very slowly as a little goes a long way) or use red beet juice
- For brown/tan: 1/4 teaspoon (or more for color) of organic cocoa powder, a tiny pinch of cinnamon or turmeric to get the shade you want. Or 1 tsp red reef clay.
- To darken the color: 1/4 teaspoon activated charcoal.
- For a matte texture: 1/4 teaspoon bentonite clay – I use this with a color so it doesn’t leave a white tint.
- For a scent: A drop of essential oil of choice, a few drops of peppermint or cinnamon essential oil (optional).
Homemade Lipstick Instructions
- Step 1: Melt ingredients:
Melt the beeswax, shea butter/cocoa butter and coconut oil in a glass jar without a lid in a small pot of simmering (not boiling) water. It should melt quickly because so little of each ingredient is used.
- Step 2: Add your favorite colors:
When all ingredients are melted, remove from heat and add any optional ingredients like color or scent that you love. It can be one of this recipe with a tiny pinch of beet root powder (1/8 tsp or less), 1/4 tsp cocoa powder, 1/8 tsp bentonite clay, 1/8 tsp cinnamon and a drop of peppermint essential oil (if you love peppermint smell).
- Step 2: Form your mixture:
Once all ingredients are mixed well but still liquid, pour the liquid into the lip chap container by the glass dropper from an old tincture bottle.
Fill just below the top as it will expand slightly as it cools. Leave to cool for at least half an hour. Store in a cool place (under 80 degrees) or it will soften.
