Have you ever waked up in the middle of the night with a terrible toothache? What can you do at the very late time? Going to get some medicine or suffering a pain until the morning and making an appointment to a dentist? Well, what if I told you there are some great home remedies for toothache?
Whenever you have a toothache, it’s important to figure out what’s at the root of your discomfort. From there, you can determine how to best relieve any pain, swelling, or other symptoms. If your symptoms persist for more than a day or two, see your dentist. They can provide guidance on how to relieve your symptoms and prevent future pain. However, prior to going the dentist, let’s try one of these natural remedies for toothache at home to see how effective it is.
Salt water rinse
If you have a low throbbing feeling in your teeth, try rinsing your mouth with some warm salt water. Salt water is anti-inflammatory and helps remove bacteria from the mouth. It can also help relieve swelling of the gums.
This method is quite easy to prepare. To prepare this salt water rinse, simply dissolve 1/4 tsp of regular table salt in 4 ounces of warm water. Take a small amount in your mouth, and swish for 30 seconds. You can do this again with the rest of the salt water, even gargling with some of it to soothe any throat sensitivity. You can do this several times a day, but please don’t swallow the salt water!
Be careful to put a sufficient amount of salt in the water. Overdo it may cause you worse scenario of your teeth.
Clove oil
Clove oil has been used to treat toothaches throughout history, because the oil can effectively numb pain and reduce inflammation.
To use this approach, dab a small amount of clove oil onto a cotton ball and apply it to the affected area. You may want to dilute the clove oil with a few drops of a carrier oil, like olive oil, or water. Do this a few times per day.
You can also add a drop of clove oil to a small glass of water and make a mouthwash. Both methods still work well in this situation.
Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is another helpful home remedies for toothache. It’s anti-bacterial, so it can help get rid of bacteria in your mouth that may be cause your teeth to hurt. It also reduces inflammation in the mouth.
Dilute hydrogen peroxide with an equal amount of warm water in a cup, and swish it in your mouth. You can do a hydrogen peroxide rinse several times a day during times of tooth pain.
It’s important to note that all of these home remedies are only temporary methods. If you are experiencing pain in the mouth, you really need to get to the dentist to find out what is going on. Pain is your body’s indicator that something is wrong, and your dentist is the best place to find out what is causing it. Ignoring, or just treating, the pain may cause your dental issues to just be compounded.
